Hong Kong is the rare city that works for every age in one trip: Disneyland and Ocean Park for the children, Victoria Peak and the Star Ferry for the adults, and Lantau’s Big Buddha for a quiet morning. For Nepali families it is one of the best short holidays in Asia.
There is one catch, and it is the single most important thing on this page: the Hong Kong visa takes about 45 days. Not 45 hours. Plan backwards from that.
⚠️ Start the Visa Six Weeks Early
Most destinations from Nepal need one to three weeks of visa lead time. Hong Kong needs roughly six weeks, and the employment letter must show leave dates at least six weeks after you submit. Families who decide in October for a Tihar trip are already too late.
If you want Hong Kong during school holidays, start the file now and book the trip around the visa, not the other way round.
Hong Kong Visa for Nepali Citizens
Hong Kong visa — what our visa desk needs
- Visa type: Tourist
- Cost with our processing: NPR 15,000 per person
- Processing time: about 45 days — apply early
- PASSPORT SCAN — front page & travel history (all previous visas)
- PHOTOGRAPH — Passport-size digital photo
- OTHER DETAILS — Full address, phone number, email, marital status
- TRAVEL HISTORY (if applicable) — If visited Hong Kong: include dates. If rejected for Hong Kong visa: include dates
- FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS — Three-month bank statement. Recommended regular balance above NPR 3 lakh
- EMPLOYMENT DETAILS — Job letter mentioning leave dates (at least 6 weeks after application submission)
This checklist comes straight from our visa desk and updates when requirements change. Ask us if your situation is different.
The bank statement matters: three months of history with a balance comfortably above NPR 3 lakh is what we recommend. A balance deposited the week before you apply is the most common reason a Hong Kong file struggles.

What Is Included — and What Is Not
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| 4 nights hotel in your chosen category | Return airfare from Kathmandu |
| Daily set buffet breakfast | Visa fees |
| Arrival and departure airport transfers | Friday and Saturday night surcharge (about USD 15 per person per night) |
| The excursions listed in your plan | Blackout-date surcharges at peak periods |
| All local taxes in Hong Kong | Meals other than breakfast |
Read that first row carefully. Unlike most of our holidays, Hong Kong package prices are quoted without flights, so you can use airline miles or pick your own routing. We quote the airfare separately so you see the true total before you commit.
Getting There
There are no direct flights from Kathmandu to Hong Kong, so expect one connection through a Southeast Asian or Chinese hub. We check the routings on your dates and price them with the package.
When to Go
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| October – December | ★ Best — dry, comfortable and clear. Peak demand, so book early |
| January – March | Cool and good value, occasional grey days |
| April – June | Warm and humid, rising rain |
| July – September | Hot, wet and typhoon season — cheapest, but plan flexibility |
Avoid Friday and Saturday nights if you are watching the budget — hotels add a surcharge. Chinese New Year and Easter also carry blackout surcharges.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Hong Kong visa really take?
About 45 days. Apply at least two months before you want to travel, and make sure your employment letter shows leave dates at least six weeks after the submission date.
Is Hong Kong good for young children?
Very. Disneyland and Ocean Park are both easy full days, transport is clean and simple, and distances are short — which matters when you are travelling with small children. See also our family and group travel guide.
Can I add Macau or mainland China?
Yes, both are popular add-ons, and each needs its own visa arrangement. Tell us at enquiry and we will price the combination — see our China tour packages from Nepal.
How does Hong Kong compare with Singapore for a family trip?
Singapore is easier on the visa and slightly simpler for first-timers; Hong Kong gives you two major theme parks and more dramatic scenery for the money. Compare with our Singapore guide.
