Thailand is the single most booked destination for Nepali travellers — and the visa is far simpler than most people expect. Nepali passport holders get visa on arrival at Bangkok and other major airports, so there is no embassy queue and no interview. But there are two things that catch Nepali travellers out every week: the cash requirement at the counter, and the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card. This 2026 guide covers both.
Do Nepali Citizens Need a Visa for Thailand?
Yes — but you can get it on arrival. Nepal is on Thailand’s Visa on Arrival (VOA) list, which means you fly to Bangkok without applying in advance and collect the visa at the airport. It allows a stay of 15 days, single entry.
If you want longer than 15 days, or you want the certainty of arriving with the visa already in hand, apply for the Thailand e-Visa before departure instead. That gives you 60 days and removes any airport risk.

Fees and rules change from time to time — Thailand has waived and reinstated the VOA fee more than once in recent years. We confirm the current fee for you at the time of booking, and the visa is arranged as part of every Thailand tour package from Nepal.

- Hotel booking confirmation for your stay
- One passport-size photo (4×6 cm) — bring two, machines at the airport charge a premium

⚠️ The Cash Requirement Nobody Warns You About
Thai immigration can ask you to show THB 10,000 per person (about NPR 40,000), or THB 20,000 per family, in cash or equivalent foreign currency. This is not a fee — you keep the money. It is a spot check that you can support yourself.
It is not asked of everyone, but it is asked often enough that turning up without it is a real risk. Nepali travellers have been refused entry over exactly this. New: Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
Thailand replaced the old paper arrival card with an online Digital Arrival Card. Every foreign visitor arriving by air, land or sea must submit it — including travellers on visa on arrival.

How Long Does It Take at the Airport?
Budget 45 to 90 minutes in the VOA queue at Suvarnabhumi, and longer during Dashain, Tihar and the December–January peak when Nepali arrivals spike. Bangkok also offers an express VOA lane for an extra fee if you are short on time for a connection.
If your Thailand trip connects onward to another country the same day, do not rely on the VOA queue — apply for the e-Visa in advance instead.

Yes — a one-time extension of up to 15 additional days is possible at a Thai immigration office for a fee. But it costs a day of your holiday queuing. If you already know you want 3–4 weeks, take the 60-day e-Visa instead.
Do children need a Thailand visa?
Yes, every traveller needs their own visa and their own TDAC, regardless of age. Infants included.
