Vietnam has one of the easiest visas available to Nepali passport holders. There is no embassy visit, no interview, and no bank statement requirement — just an online application and a few days’ wait. The main thing that goes wrong is small typing errors, which are surprisingly costly to fix.
Here is how the Vietnam e-Visa for Nepali citizens works in 2026.
Do Nepali Citizens Need a Visa for Vietnam?
Yes. Nepal is not on Vietnam’s visa-exemption list, so you need a visa before you fly. The standard route is the Vietnam e-Visa, applied for online through the official government immigration portal. Vietnam opened its e-Visa to all nationalities, and extended the maximum stay to 90 days.
Vietnam e-Visa Options and Cost
| Type | Stay | Government Fee | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single entry | Up to 90 days | USD 25 (approx NPR 3,300) | Normal holidays — the usual choice |
| Multiple entry | Up to 90 days | USD 50 | Trips that leave and re-enter Vietnam, e.g. a Cambodia side trip |
Fees are set by Vietnam’s immigration department and paid online. They are non-refundable even if the application is rejected.
⚠️ Use Only the Official Portal
Search “Vietnam e-visa” and the first several results are often commercial look-alike sites charging USD 60–150 for the same USD 25 visa. Some are legitimate agents charging a markup; some are not. Check that you are on the official government immigration website before entering passport details or payment. If we handle your visa, we use the official portal and charge only a transparent service fee.
What You Need
- Passport — at least 6 months validity and two blank pages
- Passport data page scan — clear, colour, no glare
- Portrait photo — 4×6 cm, white background, no glasses
- Entry and exit dates — your visa is valid from the entry date you give
- Port of entry — the airport you will land at (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang)
- Address in Vietnam — your first hotel
- Payment card for the online fee
No bank statement, employment letter or flight booking is required for the application itself.
Processing Time
Officially around 3 working days. In practice, allow a week, and more during Vietnamese public holidays — especially Tet (Lunar New Year, January or February), when processing can stall for a week or longer.
Apply at least 2 weeks before departure. There is no reliable express option on the official portal.
The Mistakes That Cause Problems
| Mistake | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Name typed differently from the passport | Can be refused boarding. Usually needs a new application and a new fee. |
| Wrong date of birth or passport number | Same — the visa does not match your passport |
| Wrong port of entry | Entry problems on arrival |
| Entry date later than your actual flight | The visa is not yet valid when you land |
| Blurry photo or passport scan | Rejection, and you pay again |
Check every field against your passport before paying. It takes two minutes and saves a week.
On Arrival
- Print the e-Visa. Keep a phone copy too, but carry paper.
- Airline check-in in Kathmandu will ask to see it — there are no direct flights, so you connect via Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Guangzhou.
- Immigration checks the e-Visa against your passport. No separate arrival fee.
- Keep your hotel address handy in case you are asked.
Vietnam Compared to Other Visas from Nepal
| Destination | Visa | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Maldives | Free on arrival | Easiest |
| Vietnam | e-Visa, USD 25 | Easy |
| Thailand | Arranged in advance | Easy |
| Dubai | Arranged in advance, police clearance needed | Moderate |
| Japan | Embassy, heavy documents | Hard |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a Vietnam visa on arrival?
Not as a standard option. Some agents sell visa-on-arrival approval letters, but the e-Visa is simpler and avoids an airport queue. Use the e-Visa.
Can I visit Cambodia or Laos and come back?
Only with the multiple-entry e-Visa. A single-entry visa ends when you leave Vietnam.
Can I extend it inside Vietnam?
With a 90-day stay available from the start, you rarely need to. Choose your full dates when you apply.
Does White Tiger Holidays handle it?
Yes. We prepare and submit the e-Visa for you, check every field against your passport, and send you the approved visa before departure. Visa fees are charged separately from the package price.
