Three destinations come up again and again when Nepali travellers plan their first beach holiday: Thailand, Bali and Vietnam. They cost roughly the same, they are all a few hours from Kathmandu, and every one of them looks perfect on Instagram.
They suit completely different travellers. Here is an honest comparison, including who should not pick each one.

Thailand — The Safe First Choice
Thailand is the most booked destination from Nepal for good reasons. It does everything reasonably well, nothing about it is difficult, and it is the cheapest of the three.
Strengths: visa on arrival, short flights, excellent value, Bangkok’s shopping, island beaches, and genuine variety — a family, a couple and a group of friends can each have a good trip in the same country.
Weaknesses: the popular spots are busy. Pattaya and parts of Phuket can feel crowded and commercial. If you want quiet and unspoilt, this is not it.
Skip it if: you have already been twice and want something new.

Bali — The Honeymoon Winner
Bali is the most photogenic of the three by a wide margin. Rice terraces, clifftop temples, private-pool villas — it is built for couples, and it delivers.
Strengths: outstanding resorts at prices that would buy far less in the Maldives, dramatic scenery, a strong wellness and spa culture, and a genuinely distinctive Hindu culture that many Nepali travellers find surprisingly familiar.
Weaknesses: traffic. Bali’s roads are slow, and a journey that looks like 30 minutes on a map can take two hours. It is also one island — less variety than Thailand or Vietnam, and beaches that are good rather than spectacular.
Skip it if: you are travelling with elderly parents or restless children, or you want to cover a lot of ground.

Vietnam — The Value Pick
Vietnam gives you the most to look at for your money. Ha Long Bay, the old quarters of Hanoi and Hoi An, mountain scenery, and food that travellers consistently rate the best of the three.
Strengths: extraordinary value on the ground — meals, taxis and entry tickets all cost less than Thailand. Real historical depth. Landscapes that photograph as well as Bali’s without the resort price.
Weaknesses: it is long and thin. Doing Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in one week means internal flights and packing every day. Beaches are good but secondary. Less English spoken than Thailand.
Skip it if: you want to lie on a beach for seven days and do nothing.
